Background Story
This is a game my Dad and my Great Uncle would play on paper at night in hunting camp. I was never able to learn it then because teaching me during a game would reveal too much information to the other player. I started this project so I could learn and play the game with my Dad. Thank you both for this "forgotton" game.
The Game
The game is played on a 12x12 grid and is turn-based. You start with 5 ships that you place anywhere on the board. Your ships cannot occupy the same location, but they may occupy the same location as an enemy ship. The goal is to sink your enemy's ships before they sink yours. If you are thinking that this is like the "other" game there is one big difference. You are able to move your ships during the game. Moving a ship is limited to a straight line in the 8 compass points: North, South, East, West, Northeast, Southeast, Northwest and Southwest. It is also limited by the size of the ship. The Battleship is only allowed to move one location per turn. The PT Boat is allowed to move up to five. Firing shots is how you sink the enemy ships. The Battleship takes 5 hits to sink and the PT Boat takes only one. When your opponent fires, this is how you determine the location of your enemy's ships. Firing shots is only allowed into the location your ship occupies and the eight surrounding locations. Shots can be all into one location or into multiple locations in a single turn.
A ship that has the capability to fire more than one shot does not have to use all the available shots for the turn. Likewise, a ship that can move more than one location does not have to move the full distance for the turn.
The first turn of each player must be a Fire. After you Move a ship, your next turn must be a Fire. There is no limit on the number of consecutive Fire turns you can make.
